An in-depth study of the evolving United States Constitution and its effects on national, state, and local histories.
Project SMASH is a Title II-C Discretionary/Improvement grant from the U.S. Department of Education to provide professional development for educators in the Oklahoma school districts of Avant, Bowring, Caney Valley, Frontier, Hominy, Newkirk, Osage Hills, Pawhuska, Shidler, South Coffeyville, Wellston, Woodland, and Wynona with an emphasis on fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school United States history teachers.
Goals
•Improve the quality and results of teaching American history
•Improve teachers’ skills in integrating American history content knowledge with effective, engaging teaching strategies
•Increase teachers’ application of OK PASS and nation standards
•Develop and disseminate a sustainable, effective model for collaboration in improving teaching of traditional American history as a separate subject
•Progress toward the goal of making students historians
Objectives
•Produce a deeper knowledge of American history content as well as state and national performance standards
•Increase student academic performance, including knowledge of research skills
•Enhance teaching strategies and instructional effectiveness
•Improve integration of technology in the history classroom
